Civic innovation for Tapiola Library

My role: Service designer & interviewer

Focus: Service digitalization, library client's point of view, collaborative approach

PROJECT BRIEF

Client: Tapiola library

Brief: Propose a solution for public libraries to take a stronger role as civic innovation centres

OUR SOLUTION

Hypothesis: More innovation requires more interacion.

Problem worth solving: How to transform people from passive library visitors to more interactive library users?

Solution: Afterbook – an augmented receipt concept, that would encourage people to discuss books both online and when attending events. The recept prints out a question related to the book, qr code to online discussion and upcoming events.

OUR APPROACH

DATA GATHERING
-voting wall (30 replies)
-survey (16 replies)
-staff interviews (event responsible, pedagog, makerspace responsible)

KEY FINDINGS
1. Visitors mostly come to library for books.
2. Visitors are open for interaction: not to socialize, but to exchange knowledge.

DELIVERABLE

1. Afterbook concept
2. Recepit digital prototype
3. Final presentation

MY CONTRIBUTIONS

I was involved in all parts of the design process, but my key contributions were facilitating an ideation session, interviewing and communicating the results. I conducted interviews with the staff and communicated the results to the rest of the team. I was responsible for phrasing and narrating the project. In our final pitch, I presented our hypothesis, research methods, key findings and design challenge.
